The word Piwakawaka is the Moari word for Fantail, a native bird of New Zealand.  This little bird is very clever in that is jumps about flashing and fanning out his beautiful tail feathers which results in scaring little bugs, ending up with a tasty meal!

It is Moari legend that the Piwakawaka is a bearer of news, sometimes good, sometimes not so good.
